The Clash: New York 1981

No - I wasnt there.

The great people over at Retro Vinyl Cupboard have recently uploaded a great recording of The Clash in New York City in June 1981.

As ive mentioned to the 5 of you before, I love hearing live recordings of bands performing live. Some of the best recording I have are from before I was in to that band (Springsteen, Zeppelin, etc) and in many cases these shows were performed before I was born.

One of the great things i like about getting a classic show like this recording by The Clash is the story that goes along with it. A review from a fan about the show. A review from a newspaper/magazine of the show. Or notes on how the recording came to our ears (especially if its an old show and has recently surfaced).

The show that Retro Vinyl Cupboard have uploaded has a great write up on this recording. They talk about the venue, that era of the bands history, notes about the show, etc.

This is a blistering performance from one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK. Most of my favourite tracks of theirs were played at this show - Janie Jones, Clampdown (love it love it love it), Train In Vain, Guns Of Brixton, etc.
